Horseback Riding and Driving Lessons by Martini Ranch Carriages
English, Western and Bareback Lessons
All riders start by doing bareback, so they can learn to balance well. Then riders move on to Western and English.
Helmets are required and we provide them if you don’t have one yet. Riding boots are also required.
Confidence is instilled into timid riders and those who have had a bad experience elsewhere. Riders must be ages 6 & up.
Carriage Driving Lessons
You will learn the parts of a harness and how to put it on the horse correctly. You will learn to ground drive, hitch correctly and drive in the cart.
Drivers will have the horse walk, slow trot, working trot and strong trot. They will learn to do obstacle courses, cones courses and driven dressage.
We will go over traffic safety rules and cover the driving of single horses and teams.
Complete Horse Care
Students learn to get their horse out of its stall, lead it and groom it. They must tack the horse up correctly and make sure everything is adjusted for the horse’s comfort. Then they ride or drive.
Students learn about feeds and feeding, vaccines, deworming and hoof care. They learn about equine anatomy and physiology, different styles of riding and parts of a bridle and saddle. Students get a chance to try handling a horse for a Halter class and how to judge that class.
All of our programs instill Confidence, Compassion and Responsibility for others.
